ABOUT OUR TEACHERS
Ms. Kate Chrisman
My name is Ms. Chrisman, and I will be teaching K-4th grade art. I have been working hard all summer creating super fun, and exciting art projects for our students--and I cannot wait to get started and meet everyone!
I have loved painting and drawing since as far back as I can remember. When I was in grade school I looked forward to the days I had art class, and hope to do the same for my students. Following my dreams of becoming an artist, I practiced art throughout high school and graduated with a BFA/AE degree from the School of the Art Institute in 2006. I've had experience teaching throughout Chicago, including the past 7 years at Bridge Elementary. I am looking forward to starting my 8th year teaching here at Bateman!
Some of my favorite activities include painting murals, riding my bike, walking my dog Lola, trying out new restaurants and traveling to new places.
Ms. Adrienne Tambone
My name is Ms. Tambone. I am very excited to be joining the Bateman School this year as the 5-8th grade Art Teacher. I am a recent graduate of Columbia College Chicago's Master of Art Education program and have a Bachelor's of Fine Arts from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. I spent three years in South Korea teaching ESL and Visual Arts at an international school before moving to Chicago to become an art educator. I am knowledgeable in many areas of art, including drawing, graphic design and printmaking.
Ms. Schouweiler
My name is Ms. Schouweiler and I am very excited to work with the Bateman family as we explore music together! I am pleased to say this is my first year teaching music at Bateman Elementary and look forward to the wonderful musical creations we can make and display for each other.
The past couple of years I have worked with Chicago Public Schools in a variety of different aspects. I have had the privilege to work as both a maternity leave substitute and a cadre substitute and experience the joys of many different grade levels. I have worked with students in all grades between Kindergarten and 8th grade and am excited to continue working with many different students as I see K-4 for music every week!
I graduated from a small school in Iowa, Northwestern College, where I had the opportunity to get degrees in both education and music. While there, I focused on percussion performance and had a chance to travel all around the country playing with the band. I have also been playing piano since I was in 2nd grade, and continue to make music with my sister in a band we call "The Steppe Sisters". Last summer we had the incredible chance to release a 5 track album on iTunes, and google play!
When I am not at school, I enjoy sitting with a cup of coffee at my piano, playing board games with friends, and exploring the many different restaurants Chicago has to offer.
