Quarter 2 - Holiday songs from Around the World
The first grade students are following the travels of Globe Trot Scott. Each week, Scott will send our class a package with fun things to explore about the country he visited. We will learn about how other countries celebrate winter holidays, and the songs they sing to help them celebrate! The website will be updated each week with his travel adventures!
Scott Goes To: Israel
This week Scott went to Israel. We learned about Hanukkah. We learned that they play a game with dreidels and we learned the Dreidel song. Scott sent each of us a paper dreidel and we got to play the game with pebbles!
Scott Goes to: Italy
Students got a package from Italy. In this package we learned about how children in Italy celebrate the holidays. Similar to Santa, Italian children wait for La Befana to deliver gifts. Children will also write notes to their parents and hide them in napkins. We got to write our own notes and put them in napkins! We listened to an Italian song called "La Befana Trullala". We got to sing and dance when they said "Trullala"!
scott goes to: mexico
This week we traveled to Mexico! We learned about the legend of the poinsettia and why those flowers are important to the people of mexico. Some of us got to make poinsettia's in art class with Ms. Chrisman. We were familiar with the song Feliz Navidad because we sang it for our holiday assembly!
scott goes to: sweden
In Sweden we learned about the Christmas Gnome called the Tomten. Globe Trot Scott even sent us materials to make our own Tomten gnomes. It was interesting to hear the Tomten song because it was all in Swedish!
scott goes to: uganda
In Uganda we learned they speak Swahili. We were able to make African Drums with soup cans and played along to an African Christmas song written in Swahili!
